Being in Park City, Utah this summer gives me an great opportunity to think about the Professional Embroidery Tutor course I will be starting next month at Hampton Court Palace.
The first two modules are Jacobean Crewel work and Canvas Shading respectively. Both I have not done before so it will be a big learning curve in every respect, but an exciting challenge. I can't wait to get started.
Because the scenery in and around Park City; which is 30 minutes drive east of Salt Lake City, is so stunning, its easy to feel inspired. As you would expect in the West, there are big skies with interesting cloud formations, vast rural landscapes with horse properties and barns all to enjoy.
I have been thinking about creating this newly renovated Oakley Diner for the Canvas Shading module.
Previously called the Road Island Diner, it is a rare classic streamline modern art-deco 60ft restaurant dining car built in 1939. It was display at the 1939 World's Trade Dair and is said to be the only pre-war streamline diner left west of the Mississippi River.
It has been operating over 4 generations as a diner and a local landmark. I really love the chrome, the streamline shape and the typographic iconic American style signage.
