'Into the Blue'

 

Final size: 220 x 220mm

On silk with gold, silver, stranded cotton DMC and Anchor threads along with appliqué silk and beads.

Seeing a photograph by Clayton Harris’s (finalist in the 2024 Ocean Photographers of the Year) of a hump back whale inspired me. https://www.instagram.com/clay10harris/

I wanted to create a harmonious design with sweeping lines and defined areas. Creating my design would provide good opportunity for flowing couching threads, segments in cutwork and would make a feature of the tail. By adding the water splash I could explore combination threads too.
