Katie Bell Embroidery | creative embroidery artist

I am an artist, hand embroiderer and designer inspired by nature, place, colour and the emotional connections we form with the world around us. My work explores how colour, texture and natural forms can evoke memory, emotion and a sense of calm.

My primary practice is contemporary hand embroidery, combining traditional techniques with an expressive, modern design approach. My background in graphic design continues to influence the way I work, with a strong emphasis on colour, composition and visual storytelling. I am particularly interested in using stitch, texture and natural materials to create work that is both visually striking and emotionally resonant.

Painting and drawing form an important part of my wider creative practice, offering a more spontaneous and intuitive way to explore colour, mark and movement. While the two disciplines have their own distinct visual language, they share the same underlying inspiration: nature, place, emotion and the stories found within them.

Currently in my third year of professional training at the Royal School of Needlework, I am interested in the relationship between traditional craft and contemporary art, and in finding new ways to use stitch to express ideas, emotions and experiences.
