Frequently Asked Questions
How long will a commission take?
I currently have a wait time of 3 months. The portrait itself varies depending on the complexity of the animal (plus, if you require multiple portraits). Please allow 8-10 weeks. If your portrait is for a gift and you need it quickly please let me know when commissioning. Professional framing and delivery takes around 10-14 days.
What is the process?
After we both agree the pose to use and I've received the 50% deposit, I’ll start work. I'll send progress images by email, then when complete I’ll email you a digital file for approval first. We can then make any final changes at this stage. When you have confirmed you are happy with the final proof, the balance is required. Once payment has cleared I'll send artwork off to be printed, framed then posted to you.
What am I buying?
You are buying a commissioned illustration. I suggest framing as I feel enhances the portrait the best. There are different size options. If you are after a particular size, please let me know.
I'd like a greeting card, mug or coaster?
A commissioned pet portrait is required first and foremost. It's the time it takes to create the portrait, which can then be easily applied to personal greetings cards, mugs and coasters to build your pet collection.
Can I make changes to my pet’s portrait?
Yes, a portrait will not be finished until you are completely happy with the digital draft. However, if you require a complete re-design of the pose this may incur additional fees.
I work with two specialist fine art printers (UK and USA based) who are fully experienced in printing and framing.
Fine art giclée prints use archival inks, which have a no fading lifetime guarantee.
It’s a gift, can you post directly to my recipient?
Yes of course, please just let me know the address.
How will my project be delivered?
Portraits are sent by Parcelforce tracked courier, very carefully packaged. We have never had an issue with breakage. This is not a guaranteed next day service, but orders usually arrive quickly. Please allow 10-14 days to be on the safe side.
Is my deposit refundable?
Unfortunately, the 50% deposit is non-refundable. I have been let down in the past so want to ensure that you are serious about a commission.
How do I pay?
I accept payment by direct bank transfer or PayPal. The invoice you receive from me includes details for making a bank transfer. Please note that PayPal does require an additional, small processing fee.
What if I don’t like my final framed piece?
I always send you a digital preview of your completed portrait, prior to sending the artwork to the printers. However if you are really unhappy, I just ask that you post me the piece back. I will need you to take photographs and email me first. I can offer you a refund (minus your deposit).
Do you draw other pets?
Although I mainly draw cats and dogs, I would love to draw any animal that is close to your heart.
Do you work in the UK only?
No, I take international commissions, mainly in North America and Europe. For international orders please contact me for a full quote including postage.
